<datacite:descriptions>

54
<datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">The tool is designed to read, process, analyze, and report on data produced by phasor measurement units (PMUs). It has
55
three main functions:
56
Data ingestion and processing
57
Forced oscillation detection
58
Event tracking
59
Result writing
60
Ambient oscillation baselining
61
Spectral analysis and event detection
62
Dominant mode identification
63
Result writing
64
Data ingestion involves reading PMU data from CSV files, concatenating it, and applying standard signal processing
65
techniques to prepare the data for analysis.
66
The forced oscillation detection portion of the tool examines the data for evidence of a particular dynamic phenomenon in
67
power systems known as forced oscillations. It is implemented with a periodogram-based method that was developed at
68
PNNL. Forced oscillation events are tracked across time. Results are written to CSV files.
69
The ambient oscillation baselining portion of the tool is based on the Robust Modified Daniell-Welch (RMDW) spectral
70
estimator, which was developed at PNNL. It produces estimates of the signals ambient spectrum while detecting large
71
power system events. The ambient spectrum is analyzed to identify the most observable (dominant) mode frequency. At
72
the end of each day, the tool applies the k-means clustering algorithm to distinguish between dominant system modes.
73
Results are written to CSV files.</datacite:description>
